Surgeon Rear Admiral Azeez Bayo Afolayan (Rtd) is a distinguished Consultant pediatrician with over 30 years’ experience gained in the practice of military medicine, and health administration. He earned a bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery degree from the University of Ibadan in 1979.
In 1995 became a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons specializing in paediatrics also from the University of Ibadan. He attended the prestigious Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji where he completed his Junior and Senior Staff Courses in 1987 and 1997 respectively from the same institution. During his period of service in the Nigerian Navy, he was awarded the General Service, Forces Service Star, Meritorious Service Star and the Defence Service Star. Surgeon Rear Admiral Azeez Bayo Afolayan (Rtd) served in different capacities both afloat and ashore in the course of the career in the Navy. He served twice as the Director of Medical Services, Naval Headquarters Abuja from 2009-2012 and 2014-2015. Surgeon Rear Admiral Afolayan(Rtd) also served as Director Medical Administration and Logistics, Defence Headquarters, Abuja (2012-2014). The retired senior officer had previously commanded the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo (2006-2009) and Obiesesan Naval
Medical Centre (1999-2001). He was the Secretary General of the Pan African Committee of Military Medicine (2001-2005) and later served as the Director General of the 39th World Congress of Military Medicine (2011-2012).The retired Surgeon Rear Admiral also represented the Nigerian Armed Forces on the Board of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (2004-2005). He is a member of Nigeria Medical Association, Paediatrics Association of Nigeria and FCAI.
The retired senior officer enjoys Nature reading, travelling and reading medical journals and motivational books.Surgeon Rear Admiral Azeez Bayo Afolayan (Rtd) would be bringing his wealth of experience to bear in the smooth running of the Defence Health Maintenance Limited as the third Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer.
